Third-Party SIP Devices

Third-party SIP endpoint devices are generally not permitted on the UF network because of security concerns and support costs. Any exception requires approval from UFIT Telecommunications. If a UF department needs a custom third-party SIP endpoint connection for an application not covered by supported enterprise offerings, it may request an exception by following the procedure in this document.

All third-party SIP devices are subject to the following conditions:

  • Exception requests must comply with UF’s Risk Management Policy and include a risk assessment.
  • The requesting UF department must obtain direct vendor support for the device and is fully responsible for deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the endpoint device.
  • UFIT does not guarantee functionality and provides only best-effort support for third-party SIP endpoints.

Endpoint devices are defined as single-line hardware or software devices that register to the UF telephone system (Cisco UCM) using the phone type “Third-party SIP Device.” SIP devices that require gateway or trunk configuration are not considered endpoints and are not allowed in the UF Telephone system.
