Softphone (Webex)
The University of Florida is transitioning the softphone service from Cisco Jabber to Webex in 2026. Webex is a softphone solution that provides telephone services via a software client on your computer or mobile device.
All new softphones deployed after Sept. 30, 2025, will be Webex. All Cisco Jabber softphones have been provisioned into the Webex service and Jabber users may begin using Webex at any time. All Cisco Jabber softphones will be disabled after Dec. 19, 2025.
Additionally, there are models of Cisco telephony endpoints/handsets that will no longer be supported on UF’s network after Dec. 31, 2026:
- 7911, 7926, 7936, 7937-40, 7941-61
If feasible, units are encouraged to replace the following models:
- 7925, 7962, 7965, 7975
Campus IT support is responsible for retrieving their unit’s phones and disposing of them appropriately. Endpoints that are no longer network-supported should only be disposed of, not be swapped, donated or resold. When a device is disposed of, units should submit a ticket to the UFIT Telecommunications team in order to remove the device’s number from the department’s account.

Coordinate with your local IT support to obtain the Webex client.
UFIT supports a wide range of telephony endpoints, including multiple-line devices, videophones, key expansion-modules and conference units. A list of the latest supported devices can be found on the Device List.
If your department or unit would like to purchase an approved endpoint that is not in stock, UFIT will place the order directly with the vendor. These orders can take up to a month to be fulfilled due to processing time. It is recommended to acquire telephony endpoints that are in stock to avoid delays.
