UFIT Service Dependencies

QuickReg ties together multiple UFIT services to make student registration as seamless as possible:
  • CNS Virtual Server & SQL instances
  • GLEAM — GatorLink External Application Management
  • Enterprise Systems’ ODBC Warehouse SQL Server data downloads
  • Canvas — UF’s e-Learning system
  • Shibboleth authentication
  • Treasury Management's IPAY — UF’s web payment gateway for credit card charges
  • UF Identity Access Management Directory APIs

Therefore QuickReg can take advantage of central IT support services—such as the UF Help Desk—but also depends on all of the systems working in concert together.

UF Identity Access (Directory) Affiliations

Individuals who register for a QuickReg activity will be granted the affiliation: 
Type 244: Self Service User  
related to 52010000 (GT5XGGU6)  DC-AP DISTANCE, CE & IT

This affiliation will be removed 90 days after the activity has ended (for cohort based training) or the specified "Activity Length" has passed (for rolling enrollment activities).

UF Identity Coordinators cannot extend this affiliation via the UF Identity Access Management functionality in PeopleSoft.  If a UF Identity Coordinator can vet the identity of the student, the "Continuing Education Student" affiliation can be assigned to the student to extend GatorLink access as needed.

Trouble Shooting Student Access

If a student has created a GatorLink account, but claims they cannot access their activity in Canvas there are several areas to check:
  • The student's GatorLink account — have the student logon to http://login.ufl.edu. If the student gets a message that they have successfully logged on, then their GatorLink ID is working.
  • QuickReg registration — login to QuickReg, and choose the "Administration" tab (this will not show up until after you are logged in), and then run the enrollment report for the section in question.

Restricted Access and Known Issues

Students who register through QuickReg are assigned a "Self-Asserted" affiliation in the UF Identity Directory that is recognized by Shibboleth, UF's preferred authentication service for online applications. However, individuals with only "Self-Asserted" affiliations are not included in the UFAD, so if a student is associated with UF only through QuickReg, they will not be able to access any applications that use UFAD authentication.

Therefore, QuickReg students do not automatically have access to the following UFAD authenticated UF services:

  • Adobe Connect
  • Mediasite content that requires authentication (scheduled to conversion to Shibboleth in Spring 2013)
  • on-campus computer labs
  • Physical classrooms
    • instructor computer
    • TurningPoint – local classroom response system
  • Turnitin, if accessed directly
  • UF Connect/SharePoint
  • VPN
  • wireless network

In addition, UF services that depend on VPN will not be available to QuickReg students:
