UF Cellular Coverage
Cellular Coverage at the UF Gainesville Campus
The University of Florida is committed to providing robust and reliable mobile phone coverage across the Gainesville campus to support academic success, digital learning, and campus safety.
To ensure consistent service across complex indoor environments, UF utilizes a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) and modern small-cell neutral host infrastructure. This technology allows multiple major carriers to share the same indoor network, expanding high-speed 5G and cellular connectivity into locations where terrain or building construction might otherwise limit signals. Many facilities across campus,, including major hubs such as Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and various UF Health facilities, are equipped with these strategically placed antennas to optimize the mobile experience.
How to Use Wi-Fi Calling on Campus
While UF strives to provide reliable cellular service across campus whenever feasible, you may still encounter areas with limited or poor reception. This can be due to physical limitations, such as heavily shielded buildings and basements, or may be limited to a specific carrier availability in that location. If you experience low signal strength, you can use Wi-Fi Calling to route your phone calls and text messages over the UF wireless Wi-Fi network (such as eduroam) instead of your carrier's cellular network.
Enable Wi-Fi Calling in 4 Easy Steps:
Whether you use an Apple or Android device, setting up Wi-Fi calling takes just a few seconds:
- Tap Settings on your phone, then tap Cellular (Apple devices) or Connections (Android devices).
- Check if Wi-Fi Calling is listed in the menu.
- If it is, select Wi-Fi Calling and toggle the feature on.
Note: If Wi-Fi Calling is not listed in your settings, your device is not compatible with this feature.
