Azure

UFIT manages UF's enterprise agreement with Microsoft Azure. Under the IT rationalization policy, UF business with Azure goes through UFIT. We work with you to design secure, highly available Azure services for your project, then build and manage them to UF's standards.

What you get

  • Azure services for your project, designed with you and built by UFIT.
  • Sign-in with your GatorLink to the Azure resources your team needs.
  • UF's central logging, auditing and security tools.
  • A connection to UF's private network, if your project needs one.
  • Budget alerts by email.

What UFIT does

  • Designs the solution with you, based on your requirements and cost.
  • Builds and manages the Azure resources, and makes the changes you request.
  • Runs UF's central logging, auditing and security tools.
  • Sets up access for your team. Who owns what, and who can do what, is agreed during design.
  • Pays Microsoft and bills you each month.

What you do

  • Tell us what your project needs and approve the design.
  • Test what we build and tell us what needs to change.
  • Use your access for the tasks agreed during design.
  • Keep an eye on your costs.

How to request

  1. Get a UF Hosting account and billing ID. Your local IT unit sets these up. See Request an Account.
  2. Log in to the UF Hosting portal and request the "Public Cloud" catalog item.
  3. Start a risk assessment. Every new public cloud project needs one, and nothing can be deployed until it has been started.

UFIT then meets with you to understand what you need. If your project would fit better on UF's own hosting, we'll suggest that. Otherwise we work out the best Azure solution, agree a design with you, build it and set up access for your team. You test it and we make any changes. For changes after that, open a ticket.

If your project is part of NIH STRIDES, say so in your request. UF has a STRIDES agreement with Azure.

Costs

UFIT pays Microsoft and bills your UFIT billing ID each month for the previous month's use. Your bill includes everything in your subscription, a share of UF's central logging, auditing and security costs, and a 10% support charge. "Billing" in Guides and FAQ explains each part.

We give you a cost estimate while designing your project. Budget alerts email you when actual or forecast costs pass set limits, and you can review costs at any time in Azure's cost tools.

Networking

If your project needs a network, UFIT creates subnets for you in one of two shared networks:

  • Data Center Extension works like a network in UF's own data centers. Resources in it reach campus on UF's private addresses. They can't reach the internet directly from Azure. That traffic goes back through campus.
  • Internet Only reaches the internet and can't reach UF's private network.
