Norstar Voice Mail Instructions

Note: The following instructions are for Norstar voice mail service only. If your department has voice mail provided by some other electronic key or PABX system, please use the appropriate instructions for your particular system.

Open Mailbox

  1. Press FEATURE 9 8 1.
  2. Enter your password.
  3. Press OK or # to accept your password.

Change greeting

After opening your mailbox:

  1. Press ADMIN or 8.
  2. Press GREET or 2.
  3. Press REC or 1.
  4. Press PRIME or 1.
  5. Press YES or 1.
  6. At the tone, record your greeting.
  7. Press OK or # to end your recording.
    Note:Press PLAY or 2 to review the current greeting prior to accepting.
  8. Press OK or # to accept your recording.

Change your recorded name in the directory

After opening your mailbox:

  1. Press ADMIN or 8.
  2. Press 1 to record your name in the directory (you will hear the current name).
  3. At the tone, record your greeting.
  4. Press OK or # to end your recording.
    Note: Press PLAY or 2 to review the current greeting prior to accepting.
  5. Press OK or # to accept your recording.

Accessing voice mail while away from the office

  1. Press * * while listening to the outgoing greeting from the Auto Attendant.
  2. Enter the mailbox number (2 or 3 digits) and password. If you were transferred to your mailbox, enter only the password at the prompt.
  3. Follow the prompts.

Note: After listening to your messages, the messages you do not delete are automatically saved.

Transferring a caller to leave a message in someone's mailbox

  1. Press FEATURE 9 8 6.
    NOTE: DO NOT PRESS HOLD.
  2. Enter the mailbox number or use the directory.
    Note: Press OK or # to accept the name when using the company directory. Do not use the Internal Autodial Feature.
  3. Wait until the display shows "Call transferred" before attempting any other Norstar Voice Mail functions.

Leave a mailbox message for yourself or an associate

  1. Press FEATURE 9 8 0.
  2. Enter the mailbox number where you want to leave the message. If you don't know the mailbox number press DIR or #.
    Note: After you have entered the mailbox number, the display shows the mailbox owner's name.
  3. Press OK or 2 to leave your message.
  4. Press OK or # to end your recording.

Note: After you have recorded your message you can press:

  • RETRY to record the message again.
  • PLAY to hear the message.
  • SEND or # to send the message.
  • 3 for delivery options.
    1. URGENT or 2 to mark your message urgent.
    2. PRIV or 3 to mark your message private.
    3. RIs or hang up to send your message normal delivery.

Speak to a caller who has reached your mailbox

  1. Press FEATURE 9 8 7 to interrupt a caller leaving a message in your mailbox.

Note: The first part of the message will remain in the mailbox and must be deleted.

Forward a copy of a message to an associate

  1. Press 5 while listening to a message or just after the message has played.
    • Yes or 1 to record an intro.
      Note: After you have recorded your intro, press:
      • RETRY to record the message again.
      • PLAY to hear the message.
      • SEND or # to send the message.
    • No or 2 if you do not wish to include an intro.
  2. Enter the mailbox number where you want to leave the message. If you don't know the mailbox number press DIR or # .
  3. After you have entered the mailbox number, the display shows the mailbox owner's name.
    Press: OPTS or 3 for to send your message with one of the following delivery options:
    • CERT or 1 to certify the message.
    • URGENT or 2 to mark your message urgent
    • PRIV or 3 to mark your message private
    • * or hang up to send your message normal delivery.
    • SEND or # to send your message normal delivery.

If you enter the wrong mailbox

  1. Press * to exit the incorrect mailbox.
  2. Enter the correct mailbox number or press # for the directory.

When your password expires

When you get the message that your "Password expired," DO NOT HANG UP. Hanging up when the "Password expired" is displayed will only lock your mail box. If your voice mail does becomes "locked" for any reason, see the System Coordinator for your department's phone system. They will have to unlock your voice mail.

To enter a new password when your previous password has expired.

  1. Enter a new password (4-8 digits) that does not start with zero.
    Note: Your new password cannot be the same as your last password.
  2. You will be prompted to reenter your new password.
