Jabber FAQs
Cisco Jabber is UF’s softphone solution that provides telephone services via a software client on your computer or mobile. It allows you to make and receive calls from your assigned UF business telephone number, as well as providing access to your voicemail.
- Do NOT use Jabber to place 911 emergency calls
- Use a landline, deskphone, or your mobile phone to make 911 calls whenever possible.
- Jabber will route all 911 calls to the Alachua County PSAP, regardless of where the calling device may be located.
- Jabber will not provide the critical location information of the calling device to the PSAP
- The cost of Jabber is covered by the monthly telephone line charge. There are no additional charges to use Jabber.
- No, the VPN client is not required. Jabber works inside and outside of UF, with or without the UF VPN.
- However, you may need to use the VPN to use client to use it in conjunction with other UF applications, such as the Finesse Contact Center application.
If this is your first time using Jabber, Make sure you first carefully follow the provisioning steps in the Get Jabber document:
- Make sure that for username you’ve entered your Gatorlink ID followed by @voip.ufl.edu. For example: aligator@voip.ufl.edu
- Verify that your device is properly connected to a network, with a strong signal if connected via wireless or cellular
If your Jabber client was working before but it has now stoped:
- If you recently updated your Gatorlink Password, you will need to update it on Jabber:
- Sign-Out and then sign back in with your new password. - Verify that your device is connected to a network, with have a strong signal if connected via wireless/cellular.
- Check alerts.it.ufl.edu to make sure there are no temporary issues with the service
If you've tried the steps above and are still unable to login:
- Select the 'Reset Jabber' option displayed on the sign-in screen
- Sign in using your GatorLink ID followed by @voip.ufl.edu (Example: gatorlink@voip.ufl.edu) and GatorLink password
- Then, when prompted, login again via the SSO web browser and accept your Duo push notification

Beginning Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, single sign-on (SSO) will be implemented across UF’s Cisco Jabber environment. This update is a part of ongoing efforts to secure UF’s IT environments.
After logging into the Jabber application, you will be prompted to login again via the SSO web browser login page and accept a Duo push notification in order to begin using Jabber.
If you experience login issues after August 1st, please:
- Select the 'Reset Jabber' option displayed on the sign-in screen.
Note that you may need to select the Sign Out option first. - Sign in using your GatorLink ID followed by @voip.ufl.edu (Example: gatorlink@voip.ufl.edu)
- In the UF Shibboleth SSO screen, type your Gatorlink ID and password, then accept your Duo push notification.
