Eduroam Manual Configuration


Please select your device’s operating system below for instructions on how to manually connect to the Eduroam wireless network:

Note: You should only attempt these settings if the Eduroam Auto Configuration instructions failed.

*Note: This process should only be used if you are unable to connect using the instructions at getonline.ufl.edu.*

  1. If you have previously connected to Eduroam  you will need to right click on the network and forget it.  Select eduraom from your list of networks and make sure “Connect Automatically” is checked and press “Connect”

2. When prompted enter your GatorLink@ufl.edu email address into the username field and then enter your GatorLink password and select “OK”

3. When prompted to continue connecting, select “Connect”

4. After you are connected you will need to download and install the proper security certificates to avoid being removed from the network.  Open a browser and navigate to getonline.ufl.edu, once there select “Get Online”.  On the next screen select “Unknown” from the dropdown box at the bottom.

5. Please select the USERTrust RSA Certification Authority to download the certificate.

6. Open the file that was downloaded. In the window that opens select “install certificate”.

7. When the certificate wizard opens select the Local Machine box and press “Next”

8. On the next screen select Automatic and press “Next”

9. Select Finish on the next screen and you are now connected to Eduroam.

*Note: This process should only be followed if the instructions at getonline.ufl.edu did not work.*

  1. If you have previously connected to eduroam you will need to forget the network first. Connect to the eduroam network from your airport menu.  When prompted, enter your GatorLink@ufl.edu email address as the username with your normal GatorLink password.

2. Once connected you will need to download the security certificates in order to remain connected.  Open a browser and navigate to getonline.ufl.edu.  Select “Get Online” On the next screen select “unknown” from the dropdown menu at the bottom.

3. On the next screen select the “USERTrust RSA Certification Authority” to download the certificate.

4. Open the file that downloaded and select “System” from the dropdown box that appears and click “Add”

You are now connected to the eduroam network.  If you have trouble or you cannot get connected, please call the UF Computing Help Desk at 352-392-4357.

Step 1. Open ‘Settings‘. 
Step 2. Select “Wi-Fi“. 
Step 3. Select “Other” to manually enter the network information. 

Step 4. Enter the following:
 

  • Network Name: eduroam (in lowercase letters)
  • Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Username: gatorlinkusername@ufl.edu
    • *Note: username must be in the format Gatorlink@ufl.edu or Username@shands.ufl.edu, aliases cannot be used.
  • Password: password
  • Select ‘Join

Step 5. You may be asked to accept the “Add Trust External CA Root” certificate. Select “Trust” and continue.


You should now be connected! 

This method of authentication is only recommended in extreme cases. Eduroam must be set up using the Eduroam Auto Configuration method.
*Note: If you have connected to Eduroam in the past you will need to forget the network first*
 
Step 1. Open your wifi settings and select “Eduroam” from your list of networks.

 
Step 2. Enter the following information: 


 
  • Security type: 802.1x EAP
  • EAP Method: PEAP
  • Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2
  • CA Certificate: (Leave blank if present) or “Do not validate”
  • User Certificate: (Leave blank if present)
  • Identity: Gatorlinkusername@ufl.edu
    • *Note: Identity must be in the format GatorLink@ufl.edu or Username@shands.ufl.edu, aliases cannot be used*
  • Anonymous Identity: (leave blank if present)
  • Password: gatorlink password
  •  

Step 7. The first time you connect you may be asked to accept to trust the AddTrust root certificate. Accept the certificate and complete the connection.

 
You should now be connected!

Step 1: Connect to the ufgetonline wireless network


Step 2: Open a web browser, navigate to getonline.ufl.edu, and click GET ONLINE



Step 3: From the dropdown menu select Non-specific OS and click the USERTrust RSA Certification Authority link to download the network certificate



Step 4: Navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi and click Eduroam to begin manual entry of the network settings



Step 5: Enter the following and click Connect

  • Wi-Fi Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
  • Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • CA certificate: Select Select from file… and navigate to the downloaded certificate
  • PEAP Version: Automatic
  • Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
  • Username: GatorLink username@ufl.edu
  • Password: GatorLink password


Step 6: Network connectivity can be confirmed by opening your web browser and navigating to ufl.edu in addition to verifying that the eduroam network is shown as connected in the Ubuntu taskbar
