Tokens

What is a hardware token?

A hardware token is a physical device that can be used to complete your multi-factor authentication.  While most users prefer the convenience of using the Duo app on their mobile device, a hardware token may be used in a situation where you cannot carry a mobile device but can bring the token.  Both your mobile device and a token can be used even when no cell phone connection is available.

Individual tokens may be personally purchased through the UF Computing Help Desk for $15/$20 or from 3rd party vendors.  Departments may order tokens in larger quantities.  Tokens obtained from 3rd party vendors will only be able to complete multi-factor authentication when logging into websites. Third party tokens will not complete authentication for VPN and other non-web applications.
