NaviGator Notebook Overview

NaviGator Notebook is an AI‑powered research and note‑taking tool that lets you load your own sources into a “notebook” and then ask questions, generate summaries and study guides, and produce audio and video overviews that distill complex material into digestible explanations, all powered by Google's Gemini.

Security, Privacy, Data Classification Usage Guidelines

UF provides this service to allow you to leverage AI in analyzing institutional data and uncover insights using different language models while keeping those data sets secure within UF servers and contracted vendors.  At this time, UF permits the usage of restricted or sensitive data with models deployed on UF HiPerGator. The usage of restricted or sensitive data is not permitted with cloud models. Users only have access to their own datasets and conversation history. When interacting with models hosted by vendors, your messages and subsets of your documents will be sent to a LLM instance provided by Microsoft, Amazon, or Google.  All data handled in this fashion is covered by our existing agreements with Microsoft. Amazon, and Google.  None of this data contributes to training the large language model.

User Guide

  • What it is: A personalized AI research assistant that analyzes sources you add (PDFs, Google Docs, websites, YouTube, even audio), finds connections, and answers questions with citations to your materials, powered by Gemini.
  • Create a notebook: Go to NaviGator Notebook, start a new notebook for a topic or project.
  • Add sources: Import Google Drive Docs/Slides/Sheets (re‑sync manually if you update originals), PDFs and text files, pasted excerpts, web URLs and YouTube links, and MP3/WAV audio (auto‑transcribed).
  • Ask and create: Chat to ask questions, request summaries, timelines, FAQs, study guides, or briefing docs. You can also generate an audio or video overview that explains your material.
  • Use citations: Answers include citations that link back to the exact passages in your sources so you can verify quickly.
  • Capture insights: Click “save to note” during chat or ask NaviGator Notebook to summarize a whole chat into a single note for easy recall later.
  • Share and revisit: Notebooks are saved like documents and can be shared for viewing or editing; return anytime to continue your work.
